The James Clemens Swim and Dive team had a great start to the season as the women’s team took first place and the boy’s took a close second. The Jets competed in the Bob Jones Invitational on Saturday, September 7 th at Dublin Park.
Ashley Ahrens and Gemma King gave the women’s team a strong lead. Ahrens placed first in diving with a final score of 197. King placed 7 th with an overall score of 107.05. Both Ahrens and King completed 6-dives in the 1-meter diving event.
The women’s team secured a lead by taking first in both relay events. The medley relay was lead off with Rebecca King swimming the backstroke leg, Anna Chubb in breaststroke, Lusiana
Levan in butterfly and Emma Williams in freestyle. The freestyle relay was comprised of Chubb, Anna Mead, King and Levan as the anchor.
The Jet’s women’s team continued to dominate throughout the meet with several top three finishes. Anna Mead took first in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.42 with Emma
Williams finishing in third. Levan took first in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 26.19. Levan also took second in the 100 yard butterfly with the time of 1:00.73. Elizabeth Busby secured the
third place spot in the 100 butterfly with a high school state qualifying time of 1:05.96. Senior and Women’s team captain, Rebecca King took first place in the 100 yard freestyle with another
state qualifying time of 57.43. King also to,ok second in the 100 yard backstroke. The women’s team is undefeated at they head into the remainder of the season.
The Jet’s men’s team also had a great start to the season finishing in a close second behind Bob Jones. Alexander Benzek competed in 6 dives on the 1 meter board. Benzek had an overall score of 210.65 placed him in second.
Senior and Men’s team captain, Zhou Chen, took the first place finish in the 200 yard individual medley. Chen posted a time of 2:13.27. Chen also finished third in the 100 yard breastroke.
Sophomore, John Choung, took first place in the 50 yard freestyle with a personal best time of 23.08. Choung also took first in the 100 yard freestyle with another personal best time of 51.69. Joshua Chubb and Nathan Johnson contributed to the Jet’s success by taking second and third in the 100 yard butterfly. Mason Holtcamp rounded out the top three in the 100 yard backstroke with a high school state qualifying time of 1:01.29.
The Jet’s will travel down to Mobile to compete in the Gulf Coast Classic Invitational on September, 27th and 28th.
