The Jet’s Swim and Dive team had an exciting weekend at the North Alabama Classic this on October 27th at the Huntsville Aquatic Center. Both the men’s and women’s team finished first out of 22 teams that competed in the invitational.
The Women’s team had a strong start with a first place finish in the 200 Medley Relay with Anna Mead (Backstroke), Lusiana Levan (Breaststroke), Mackenzie Holtcamp (Fly) and Emma Williams (Freestyle). Rebecca King and Emma Williams continued the lead by finishing first and second in the 200 Freestyle. Senior, Mackenzie Holtcamp, finished second in the 50 Freestyle and 100 Fly. Anna Mead and Rebecca King placed first and second in the 500 Freestyle. Mead finished with a personal best in season time for this season with a time of 5:27.46.
The women’s 200 yard freestyle relay made of Meredith Williams, Rebecca King, Lusiana Levan and Mackenzie Holtcamp finished second to Westminster Christian Academy. Levan went on to finish second in the 100 Freestyle and 100 Breaststroke in both of her individual events.
Going into the last event of the meet, the 400 yard freestyle relay, the women’s team was behind Bob Jones with a five point deficit. The women’s team needed a first place finish in order to win the meet. The women’s relay team of Emma Williams, Meredith Williams, Anna Mead and Rebecca King, edged out Bob Jones to win the meet by 11 points.
The men’s team also had a strong start to the meet by winning with 200 Medley Relay with Caleb Williams (Backstroke), John Choung (Breaststroke), Eric Messer (Fly) and Ben Sandstrom (Freestyle). Williams went on to finish third in the individual 200 yard freestyle and first in the 100 backstroke.
Messer had a great contribution to the men’s winning score by finishing second in 200 Individual Medley and 100 fly. Noble McMaster finished second as well in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.05. The men’s team swept the 500 freestyle with two seniors, Brennan Bush and Connor Black, taking second and third place.
Both the men’s 200 Freestyle Relay and 400 Freestyle relay finished first overall. The 200 free relay was comprised of Eric Messer, Hank Botters, Ben Sandstrom and Noble McMaster. The 400 relay was made up of Bush, Botters, McMaster and Williams. The men’s team placed first by a staggering 103 points.
Alexander Benzek placed third in the diving competition with an impressive score of 248.30.
