Boys Varsity Swimming, Girls Varsity Swimming · Jet Swim and Dive Winners At Panther Invite


The Jets Swim and Dive team had another high scoring meet last week as they competed in the Panther Invitational hosted by Huntsville High School. The Jets competed against several teams including Grissom, Randolph, Westminster, Madison Academy, Arab, Guntersville Hartselle, Decatur and Huntsville. The women’s team finished first with the men’s team finishing at a close second. Both the men’s and women’s team had several top 3 finishes of the night.

For the women’s team, Ashley Ahrens gave the women’s team a strong start by finishing third in diving. Ahrens completed 6 dives to score a total of 169.05 points for the Jets. Rebecca King (2:04.53) and Emma Williams (2:10.38) took first and third in the 200 yard freestyle. King and Williams also took first and second in the 500 yard freestyle with times of 5:31.38 and 5:45.25. Anna Mead finished second overall 200 yard Individual Medley. Mead also took third in the 100 yard backstroke.

Mackenzie Holtcamp had a third place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 25.64. Holtcamp also took third in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.67. Lusiana Levan was the top finalist in the 100 yard butterfly with a person best in-season time of 1:00.47.  Levan also scored third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:12.63.

The women’s 200 yard freestyle comprised of Anna Mead, Emma Williams, Meredith Williams and Mackenzie Holtcamp finished second overall. The women’s team also won the 400 yard freestlye relay with the efforts of Meredith Williams, Anna Mead, Rebecca King and Lusiana Levan as anchor.

For the men’s team, Alexander Benzek gave the Jets a lead by finishing third in the diving portion. Benzek completed 6 dives to score an impressive 185.6 points. The men’s 200 yard freestyle relay of Caleb Williams (backstroke), John Choung (breaststroke), Eric Messer (fly) and Ben Sandstrom (free) finished second in a very close race with Huntsville with a time of 1:45.22.

Messer went on to win his individual 100 yard butterfly with hid personal best in-season time of 55.93. Sandstrom finished close behind and took third place with the time of 59.01. Messer also took third in his 200 yard Individual Medley with a time of 2:10.61.

Noble McMaster finished second in the 100 yard freestyle with the personal best in-season time of 51.03. McMaster also had a personal best in the 50 yard freestyle (23.53) and finished third. Caleb Williams had an impressive 500 yard freestyle yielding the time of 5:11.83. Williams fell short of first place by only .16 of a second. John Choung placed second in the 100 yard breaststroke with an exciting personal best in-season time of 1:05.62.

The men’s team had a strong finish to the meet as well. The men’s 400 yard freestyle relay of Noble McMaster, Brennan Bush, Eric Messer and Caleb Williams as anchor, took first place in a blowout race. Both the men’s and women’s teams will be competing in the Big 4 Meet against Bob Jones, Grissom, and Huntsville next Tuesday, October 2nd at Dublin Park indoor pool.
