Girls Varsity Softball · Softball Defeats #1 and #2 In 3 Days

The Jet softball team got out to a hot start on a cool night on Tuesday to defeat the #1 ranked 7A team Sparkman 8-5 on Tuesday night in Harvest. The Jets scored 3 runs in the first sparked by a Lila Young in the park home run. Young also had a triple that drove in another run later in the game. Holly Sharp pitched the complete game striking out three for the win. The loss to the Jets was the first of the season for the Senators.

On Thursday the #2 ranked and defending state champion 6A Hazel Green Trojans traveled to James Clemens for another stiff test for the Jets. After holding the Trojans scoreless in the top of the first, the Jets erupted for four runs in the bottom of the inning led by a Jordan McMeans run scoring double. McMeans would homer and single also in the game. The Trojans answered the Jets with 4 runs in the top of the 2nd inning. The teams swapped leads again before the Jets finally pulled away in the 6th for a 9-8 win. Both teams had 11 hits and 4 errors. Holly Sharp got the win in relief of Maddie McKeon. Sarah Simon also had two RBIs for the Jets, 12-3 overall on the year.
