Boys Varsity Baseball · Jets Varsity splits twin-bill with Hoover

On Monday night Feb. 26 in Hoover, the Jets Varsity split a pair with defending 7A state champion Hoover, winning the opener 3-2 and dropping the nightcap 9-7.
In the first game, JC took a 3-0 lead in the 2nd inning on singles by Zach Hopkins and Laken Lansdell, followed by run-scoring hits by Dylan Kridner, Connor Cantrell and Collin Brown. The Bucs came back with single runs in the 2nd and 3rd innings, but Tyler Legere shut them down after that as the Jets hold on for the victory. Legere was masterful on the mound, striking out 9 while walking none and allowing 4 hits.
In the second game, the Jets fell behind 7-1 after 3 innings but then mounted a comeback. After Cantrell and Austin McGhee reached on errors to start the 4th, Collin Brown stroked a 2-run single. In the 5th, a long 2-run double by Cantrell and an RBI double by McGhee brought the Jets within a run at 7-6. After allowing a run in the bottom of the 5th, the Jets continued hammering away in the 6th. The Jets loaded the bases with no outs, and Lansdell ripped a long fly into center that was caught but scored a run. Kridner then laid down a squeeze bunt but Logan Cameron was tagged out at home on a ‘controversial’ call, leaving the score at 8-7. The Bucs made it 9-7 in the bottom of the 6th, and despite loading the bases in the 7th the Jets couldn’t push across another run.
