Girls Varsity Indoor Track & Field · JC Girls Indoor Track Wins MLK

Congratulations to James Clemens Girls Track team on winning the Martin Luther King Indoor Track Invitational on Monday at the Birmingham Crossplex.  The meet featured 133 team and 1900 athletes.

The meet is a great way to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. It featured a parade with all coaches and athletes from 133 schools holding arms and walking around the track. This was followed by performances of three choirs and videos on the large screen of the history of Martin Luther King and his accomplishments and movements across the Nation.

The James Clemens Girls track team has been ranked in the top three 7A Schools all season.

The team plan was to work on specific different events each meet this season and put all events and the entire team STATE Line up together in the Martin Luther King Meet. This was the largest Indoor Meet in the State this season.

This was the time to finally defeat Hoover. James Clemens defeated Hoover ranked number one in the STATE 7A track rankings by 11.5 points.

This was the time to conquer teams from four States: Alabama; Georgia; Mississippi; and Tennessee.

This was the time to show the track world what James Clemens had worked on for six years, to be the BEST. Hundreds and hundreds of athletes participated in each event.

The top 8 finishing athletes in each event score points and the top three athletes medal.

James Clemens Girls dominated the meet with the most scoring performances and medals of any team. This was their dress rehearsal performance for the State Meet.

James Clemens / Liberty Middle School track program has won two team STATE RUNNER UPS and one Team STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in the last 3 years and look to add a Boys Middle School Team STATE CHAMPIONSHIP and a Varsity Girls Team STATE CHAMPIONSHIP this Indoor Season.

James Clemens had 6 Individual Champions; 16 Medals ( 9 GOLD; 6 SILVER; 1 BRONZE) and 15 Scoring Performances.
