Sophomore wide receiver Chris Hope made his first varsity start a memorable one with three TD receptions of 11, 41, and 34 yards from freshman quarterback Conner Cantrell to lead the James Clemens Jets to a 42-0 routing of the Grissom Tigers on Friday night. Fellow wideout Eris Skelton scored on two TD receptions also as the Jets passing game erupted for the highest total yardage of the season. Cantrell finished 16 of 24 for 194 yards and five TDs.
The Jet defense posted its first shutout of the season surrendering only 146 total yards of offense to the Tigers. Chris Sanders led the team with 9 tackles and a fumble recovery. Zach Hopkins and Malachi Tranthum each had 7 tackles each. Austin McGhee tallied two safeties by tackling the Grissom punter in the end zone after a bad snap.
The Jets improve to 2-4 on the season and 1-3 in region play and will play Huntsville at 7 PM at Louis Crews Stadium on Friday.
