Multiple Teams · Jets Clinch #1 Seed with Dominant Win Over Buckhorn

The varsity girls soccer team clinched the top spot in 7A Section 8 Tuesday evening with a dominant 10-0 victory over Buckhorn High School. The game concluded only 13 minutes into the second half due to the AHSAA mercy rule. The Jets are now 5-0 in conference play, sweeping rivals Sparkman and Bob Jones earlier in the season – a first for the squad. The final area match will be April 24 at 5:00 against Buckhorn.

With last night’s win, the Jets improve their overall 2017 record to 11 wins, two losses and two draws. The girls remain #6 in the state with four remaining matches before the playoffs:

• April 13 at home versus Hoover at 5:30

• April 20 away versus Mountain Brook at 6:00

• April 24 away versus Buckhorn at 5:00

• April 25 at home versus Florence at 7:00

The Jets should play against the #2 seed from Section 7 in the first round of the state playoffs, likely Grissom. The girls are 2-0 against Grissom this year, outscoring the tigers 12 to 2 in their last two outings.
