Defense was the name of the game during the 2017 edition of the Warriors’ Cup.
After capturing the Platinum Division Championship at the Decatur River City Shootout, the James Clemens boys’ varsity looked to take on their in-city rival Bob Jones Patriots.
The Bob Jones defense stifled the James Clemens offense allowing only a few shot attempts that threatened the BJHS goal, while James Clemens was able to keep the Patriots off the board. The JCHS defense bent but did not break as 8 shots on the JCHS goal were denied by sophomore keeper Zachary Johnson. The teams ended regulation in a scoreless tie.
After play of two 5 minute overtime periods neither team could find a goal, and the match went to a penalty shootout to determine the winner.
After nearly a full complement of pk attempts, James Clemens had established a 1-0 lead. The final Patriot shot attempt was turned away by Scott Nation and the Jets captured the victory.
The Jets improved to 4-3- 1 on the season and improved their string of shutouts to 5 on the season.
The Jets next see action this Thursday the 23rd as they host the Buckhorn Bucks.
